The fun group at Team Up for Nonprofits are gearing up for the first ever #Gigs4Good event, featuring Victor Shade (aka RA Scion), B-Mello & more this Thursday night at the Hard Rock Cafe!
Team Up for Nonprofits is a new nonprofit founded by Ryan Hodgson. Ryan & team volunteer their time & energy to creat Gigs 4 Good. Simply put: you buy the ticket, they bring the music, nonprofits get the money. I’m excited to see how they can bring music & philanthropy together…I think Seattle is ready!
Gene Juarez Salons & Spas and Academies are partnering with MATTER OF TRUST to collect hair
clippings to be shipped to the Gulf of Mexico to help in the oil spill clean up and containment work.
The hair clippings are used to fill nylon ‘booms’ which are tied together and used to encircle and contain oil spills and keep oil from spreading. They help protect fragile coves and habitats.
Gene Juarez will be collecting hair clippings in all 12 of our salon and school locations from now until June 2 when they will be shipped to the Gulf to arrive by the June 10th. Matter of Trust will create the booms and determine additional donation needs.
GJ is happy to help minimize further impact on the fragile ecosystems, beaches, harbors, and economies of the Gulf of Mexico and encourage all to get their hair cut over the coming days to add as much hair as possible to the effort.
Also, as there has been some conflicting and/or confusing reports, we want to confirm that we have researched and confirmed that hair booms are being requested and used with hopes to contain and absorb the oil. Salons across the country are being mobilized in the effort and we are proud to participate.
If you wish to gain more information regarding the Matter of Trust efforts, visit www.matteroftrust.org. We are reporting on our collection efforts and amounts via the Gene Juarez Blog, Facebook and Twitter, please follow for updates.
To schedule an appointment to get your hair cut during this effort, call 425-373-3710 or select the salon you would like to visit here. Gene Juarez haircuts start at just $45.
